The Galeria Malta Shopping Centre, stands on an 8ha former military base plot near Poznań, Poland. It is one of the largest and most modern commercial centres in the region, located in spectacular surroundings beside Lake Malta. The lake attracts over 600,000 visitors each year.
The four-storey complex is 162,000m2 and has 170 stores, service points, cafes, restaurants, a fitness club, multi-screen cinema and multi-level car park for 2,000 cars.
Arup’s work included installation engineering, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire and security systems.
The firm was involved in all the project implementation stages from the concept design, through execution design, to supervision in the construction phase and maintenance tests.
Arup was also responsible for tenant coordination – adjustment of installations to specific requirements of their future users.
The mechanical design incorporated many energy saving measures, including extensive use of heat recovery from tenant areas used to heat malls and resulting in reduced landlord running costs.
