IDA Advanced Technology Buildings, Waterford and Athlone

Two new Advanced Technology Buildings developed for the IDA

The Advanced Technology Buildings consist of two new buildings located in Athlone and Waterford and were developed for future IDA client investors from a number of potential sectors.

These buildings, designed by Kavanagh Tuite Architects, have been designed to high standards using materials such as natural stone and specialist metal cladding systems. The building layouts have taken account of the requirement of potential end users for flexibility by creating front of house open plan office areas with the potential for subdivision. The rear open plan production area offers flexibility for large scale open plan use or again the potential to subdivide or introduce cellular spaces.

Our services on these building included civil, structural, mechanical, electrical engineering as well as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) services.

Designed to achieve high standards

The buildings are of high quality environmental design and are undergoing LEED® certification. The high performance external envelope incorporates super insulated wall and roof cladding, highly efficient triple glazed aluminum windows and door systems.

The buildings have also been designed to achieve a very high standard of air-tightness to reduce the energy demand of the building on the environment and incorporate solar panels at roof level for supplementary water heating within the building.

Delivering property solutions

According to IDA Ireland the availability of high quality property solutions is a key component in winning Foreign Direct Investment projects. These initiatives will help to advance the product offering for both Midlands and the South-East and underpin the conversion of projects from IDA’s pipeline. Furthermore, these initiatives by IDA will address the current deficit of suitable property solutions and promote investment into regional locations.

Arup has a strong presence in the local commercial market and has engineered some of the country’s leading office space. Our work includes the first BREEAM® Excellent certified building in Dublin, and the first major corporate office HQ in Ireland without traditional air conditioning. Google, Accenture and HSBC are just some of the global finance, legal and technology companies that occupy many of these buildings and Arup looks forward to supporting the IDA in their initiatives to further attract and develop foreign investment locally.
