Kazan Media Centre, Kazan

Television and radio complex with stunning media façade design.

In April 2009 the Russian Patent Office approved the title of ‘Third Capital of Russia’ for Kazan. For a city with well over one million residents and a strong desire to match Moscow and St Petersburg on buildings, infrastructure and technology, a brand new media centre was high on the President’s list of desirable developments.

Arup worked closely with SPEECH architects to develop the concept for core structural, mechanical, electrical and public health services for this iconic project, across the river from Kazan’s Kremlin.

Arup’s venue technology and acoustics specialists provided advice on the best location for the complex, which will also feature large TV studios, and gave recommendations on internal functioning and acoustics walls, including the connection of all large studios with adjacent facilities.

Logistics and vertical transportation experts provided fast and reliable routing for the scenery and equipment that will be brought in and out of the building on a regular basis. The complex was then designed to allow vehicles directly into any of the large studios.

The client wanted a striking image of the building for the city skyline, so an eye-catching concept of media façades integrated into delicate glass façades was developed.
