Integrating multiple waste treatment solutions

Approximately 1,500 tons of waste per day are transferred through the Recology Tunnel/Beatty site, which is being redeveloped as part of the City of San Francisco’s plans to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2020. Arup provided strategic advice on advanced waste treatment technologies and assessed building sizes, energy and by-product generation and transportation impact to optimise site building and road layouts.

Arup studied existing operations and the expected trend of waste generation and diversion, and combined these with research undertaken on advanced waste treatment technology vendors globally.

We also provided technical information to the Environmental Impact Reporting process, including civil engineering, odour control, geotechnical, transportation, waste treatment systems, and building mechanical services.
