With a range of creative-technical educational programmes SintLucas provides vocational education in the creative industries. Managed by Arup, the team Arup/cepezed created a transparent and inspiring learning environment, which combines two worlds of the new building and the transformed monumental building. Sint Lucas offers plenty of space to students to develop their talents within the contemporary, functional setting, reflecting the current requirements in education.
Key to the integral design is the detailing in architecture. Responsible for structural engineering, building physics, building services engineering and acoustic consulting, we ensured a high comfort level, creating a pleasant climate system which is assimilated into the building. And by minimising the sound vibrations we keep the circulation spaces and class rooms as tranquil as possible.
The project was awarded through winning competition design. It combines the redevelopment of Philips’ previous ‘Natlab’ and a new extension. SintLucas is a creative hub, working closely together with businesses, cultural institutions and other schools on the future of the creative industries. Its presence strengthens the Strijp-S area as a breeding ground for creative development in the region.
