Arup provided project management, mechanical and electrical engineering design for this prestigious commercial development located in the fashionable Aoyama district of central Tokyo. The firm’s project management services covered design management, procurement, site supervision, cost control and contract administration.
The development comprises two buildings sharing a common single-storey basement. The four-storey crescent-shaped main building houses four luxury retailers, a hair salon and a restaurant.
The two-storey corner building, home to a single luxury retailer, is fully glazed on all elevations with a curved sheet metal roof. The area between the two buildings is paved at street level to provide a plaza for the main building tenants.
The main building façade features vertical bands of stone cladding and glazing incorporating balcony spaces on the upper floors. The façade is dissected by an external glass elevator that provides public access to all floors.
The façade extends above roof level to provide a screen for building equipment and a roof terrace area.
Close attention was paid to the development of the design and site construction to ensure that the architectural details and high levels of quality were achieved. The project was completed on time and within budget.
