We are developing robust and efficient energy and water systems at the Yankaninna Homestead.

The homestead, which is completely off-grid, is used by the Operation Flinders Foundation to run wilderness adventure courses for at-risk and disadvantaged young people. Currently, power for the site comes from two diesel generators and potable water is only available through an aging and insufficient groundwater osmosis unit.

Photovoltaic and rainwater collection systems

We are designing a standalone photovoltaic system with a battery bank to supply the majority of the site’s power needs. When this is operational the diesel generator will only run at times of maximum demand reducing  operational costs.

We are also designing an easy- to- use and safe water supply system, fed by a rainwater collection system. This will mean the homestead will no longer need desalinated water and minimise pumping requirements, reducing energy consumption and operational costs.
