The building includes eco-efficient strategies

Zara’s new store on Serrano Street occupies a former building from early 20th century located in one of the most important commercial areas of Madrid. The 2.500m2 building combines a historical façade made of predominantly symmetrical brick and wrought iron balconies with a glass case inside, completely independent from the envelope.

This flagship store, one of the largest Zara in Spain, occupies six floors of the entire building and includes a showroom for catwalk shows on the top floor. Its neutral design helps to highlight the prominence of the clothing thanks to cube-shaped spaces and mini boutiques distributed in a clean space.

An eco-efficient store

Shop spaces have been a key area within Inditex business model and, since 2009, they have been built in accordance with the standards contained in the company’s “Eco-efficient Store Manual”, as part of the Firm’s plans to make all of its stores eco-efficient by 2020. New stores worldwide are currently developing this model.

As part of this plan, Zara Serrano includes eco-efficient strategies that enable the shop to consume 30% less energy than other shops of this type, save up to 50% on water use, improve indoor air quality by the inclusion of CO2 sensors and material finishes with minimum Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and reduce CO2 emissions by over 150 tons per year.

We have been providing energy efficiency and sustainability and fire consulting services for this project.

Inditex´s goal is to continue making progress in the incorporation of new technologies that will help to reduce the consumption of energy and resources in general and the introduction of new designs that will help to improve the customer´s shopping experience and ensure that it remains an important social activity.
