Arup, in supporting Nordic Office of Architecture (NOA) and Rodeo Arkitekter, has been selected as the winner of the architectural competition for the new headquarters of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) at Normannsløkka in Oslo.

The project covers the design of 60,000 m² of gross floor area (BTA) and 50,000 m² of utility floor area (BRA), focused on modernising specialist spaces including studios, publishing desks, post-production facilities, concert studios, workshops, and warehouses.

The new building will be arranged across two sections: a four-storey base, aligned with the surrounding urban scale, housing studios, workshops, newsrooms and support spaces, and a recessed, circular upper structure offering modern workspaces with panoramic views across Oslo. The circular form, an iconic symbol of NRK’s brand, will become a new feature of the city’s skyline.

Arup’s UK architecture team is supporting the delivery of the winning design, which aligns with NRK’s vision for a future-ready workplace, meeting the needs of evolving media production technologies while encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The project is currently in development, with construction expected to commence following planning approvals. NRK expects to move into the new headquarters by 2029.

Nick Jackson, Director, Arup, commented: “NRK’s investment will provide a vibrant platform for world-class media production and an outstanding workplace for future generations. The collaboration on its new headquarters reflects a shared ambition to create a flexible, future-ready media environment that fosters creativity, collaboration and innovation.

“This appointment builds on Arup’s long-standing experience delivering innovative media and cultural facilities globally, and we are pleased to continue our strong partnership with Nordic Office of Architecture, following our recent work on FK Bodø/Glimt’s new sustainable stadium.”
