Arup’s business in Cardiff has made a major contribution to shaping contemporary Wales. Our people plan and engineer many of Wales’ most important new policies and strategic plans, new and renewed buildings, and infrastructure projects. The office, founded in 1970, today is home to over 400 engineers, planners, digital experts and specialist technical advisors focused on areas as diverse as regional economics, environmental science and digital rail.
Our people work from Cardiff on local, national and international projects, ranging from the Wales Millennium Centre and Cardiff’s new business district, Central Square, to Abu Dhabi International Airport. We are involved in a wide range of infrastructure projects including the dualling of the A465 at Tredegar and we work extensively with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to maintain and improve its assets as well as providing strategic thinking on long-term resilience and on flood defence and sustainable drainage schemes such as Greener Grangetown. We have advised on many elements of Welsh planning policy, including the latest Welsh transport appraisal guidance and Welsh Government’s strategy for onshore wind.
