Roles in our buildings team

At Arup we bring together a worldwide community of inventive and highly skilled building engineers and designers to help our clients to shape ambitious buildings.

At Arup we bring together a worldwide community of inventive and highly skilled building engineers and designers to help our clients to shape ambitious buildings.

We have roles available in the following areas:

Advanced technology and research

This team specialises in solving some of the most complex technical problems in civil/structural engineering such as blast, impact, vibration, fatigue and progressive collapse. We use state-of-the-art analysis software, coupled with engineering-first principles and practical know-how to deliver innovative engineering solutions. We are looking for people with strong technical understanding, keen to develop their skills in finite element analysis, coding and on-site measurements and apply these on projects across infrastructure and buildings sectors.

Digital

We bring together digital capability with specialist depth in technical engineering domains to provide digital strategy, services and solutions that meet our clients’ current and emerging needs.  We achieve this through Arup’s deep commitment to ensuring a resilient and sustainable world, underpinned by our founding social values. We are looking for people with skills in software engineering, programming, data engineering, building information modelling (BIM), geographic information systems (GIS), visualisation and gaming.

Electrical engineering

We meet the creative and commercial demands of designers and developers. Our ingenuity informs ideas that are design-led and sustainable – whether in commercial property, retail, sport, mission-critical facilities, the arts, or any market. We work on projects from concept to construction, helping to energise and light up buildings across Singapore, New Zealand and Australia, and in some cases in our own backyard. If you are studying at UNSW in Sydney, Australia, the Science and Engineering Building is an example of our work.

Sustainable Building Design

Our Sustainable Building Design consultants have varied backgrounds ranging from architecture to civil engineering and engage with the whole design team to identify opportunities to create and influence sustainable solutions in the built environment. We lead client workshops and undertake advanced simulation and analysis to inform and interpret how building systems such as façades, building services and occupants must work together to optimise performance. Visual and verbal communication of design integration plays a key role in aligning the often divergent requirements of building design.

Façade engineering

Façade designers work closely with the Architect and design team to deliver a building envelope design which is beautiful, efficient, adaptable and sustainable, filtering the external conditions to deliver excellent indoor environments. We’re looking for people with a passion for design and sustainability, with excellent digital skills and knowledge which bridges between engineering and Architecture.

Hydraulic engineering

We make buildings liveable by implementing hydraulic and fire systems including water delivery, amenity drainage, rainwater drainage, fire sprinklers, fire detection, fire alarm, and fire hydrants for use by fire brigades.

Our discipline goes beyond simple plumbing and fire design. Each system we design must be safe for all users, must be sustainable, must not interfere with the building’s primary function and must be packaged into the building efficiently. We work closely with architects, other engineering disciplines and our clients to ensure the building, not just our work, achieves excellence.

Lighting design

Lighting at Arup brings together art, science and technology.

We understand the interplay of structural form and lighting, and work with architects and artists to provide original conceptual designs. Our technical knowledge ensures that concepts become viable solutions, creating expressive, sustainable and award-winning concepts in light. See how our creative lighting re-interprets the night’s skyline at 101 Collins Street, Melbourne.

Mechanical engineering

When thoughtfully designed, mechanical services such as ventilation, heating and cooling go unnoticed. We work with our clients to create environments that are comfortable for occupants, economic for owners and efficient with resources.

Structural engineering

We rethink structures to make them more responsive to evolving demands – whether for tall buildings or for distinctive designs; Merdeka 118, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne Connect precinct, and Optus Stadium, Perth.

Vertical transportation

Considered systems for lifts or elevators are essential to the safety, productivity and experience of building users – we are a world leader in the design of lift systems for high-rise offices, busy hospitals and transport hubs such as Beijing Capital International Airport.
