Mutlu Ucuncu

  • Global, Europe and UKIMEA Fluid Dynamics Leader
  • Global and UKIMEA Building Physics Leader

Mutlu leads the fluid dynamics and building physics discipline in numerous building, masterplan and infrastructure projects supporting teams across sports, rail, water, property, science, industry, technology, and city planning market sectors.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Mutlu is specialised in applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) on a broad range of engineering problems to help deliver better performing designs. These applications include environmental wind and microclimate design, hydraulic modelling, natural and mechanical ventilation of buildings, and industrial fluid dynamics.

Mutlu has a successful track record in sport venue projects. Over the course of his career, he has undertaken the technical lead role for his discipline on over 15 iconic sport venues, including the London Aquatics Centre to deliver healthy, comfortable, and safe environmental conditions for athletes and spectators.

Mutlu has introduced CFD modelling as a new service of Arup to inform safety critical design decisions for civil hydraulic structures. His co-authored paper, “CFD modelling for dams and reservoirs – best practice workflows, specification and review” published in Dams and Reservoirs Journal, was awarded the 2020 Bateman Award by British Dam Society, based on originality, technical context, and its influence on industry.
