Collaboration across the entire value chain is crucial for driving the transition to a circular built environment and the Circular Leaders Group (CLG) provides a powerful platform for this level of exchange.
New members from across the built environment, from finance and investment to material manufacturing, design and property, join the CLG cohort to further collaboration and skills sharing. The CLG includes public and private sector organisations such as Axa, Biomimicry 3.8, Cemex, City of London Corporation, Danfoss, Dorte Mandrup, EDHEC Business School, Holcim, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Intesa Sanpaolo, Peiner Träger GmbH, Rabobank, Saint Gobain, Urban Partners and VELUX.
Martin Pauli, Arup's global circular economy services leader, said: “We are entering a pivotal moment with the second year of the CLG. Collaboration remains at the heart of driving transformation across the construction ecosystem, but what sets this stage apart is a radical business focus – ensuring that circular principles are not only tested in pilots but embedded into the very fundamentals of client businesses. By supporting pioneers to scale beyond pilots, we can accelerate widespread circular adoption and demonstrate that this shift is not just possible, but a resilient and competitive business model for the future.”
Beyond skill-sharing, the CLG seeks to develop high-impact projects that will drive change across the sector. The first cohort of the CLG developed a working document on material and product reuse, the Reuse Playbook, which is now in final stages of development. To this point, the CLG have welcomed industry speakers and is closely connected to the Circular Buildings Coalition.
During the kick-off workshop for phase 2, the group discussed how to ‘turn up the volume’ on circularity in the built environment. Emerging areas of exploration include how to scale circular business models, and how to ensure that we renovate building stock with nature positive designs.
