Arup was commissioned by Impact on Urban Health to demonstrate how the UK construction sector can reduce its emissions to improve air quality.
While air pollution from transport has steadily decreased in the UK owing to a number of key policies – such as ultra-low emissions zones – in recent years, the construction industry has increased its overall share of emissions.
The importance of acting now is clear in terms of health outcomes. However, the need for an equitable solution – combined with a robust evidence base – is crucial, particularly in considering the scale of the improvements needed.
