Arup has been appointed as a Tier 1 supplier on the National Highways Specialist Professional and Technical Services Framework 3 (SPaTS3) with a maximum value of up to £495m. Estimated to span until 2031, the framework will serve as the key route for National Highways to procure a wide range of specialist services.
The framework calls for a range of services to improve the SRN, one of the UK’s largest pieces of infrastructure, comprising over 4,500 miles of motorways and major A roads. These services include improving safety, improving customer experience, achieving carbon net zero, and ensuring environmental sustainability – all while maintaining a reliable and efficient road network that supports the UK economy.
Arup will bring its total design approach to the framework, integrating expertise across disciplines, geographies and its SME supply chain to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions focused on National Highways’ specific challenges around safety, resilience and environmental impact.
Alistair Hunter, UKIMEA Roads and Streets Business Leader at Arup, comments: “We are proud to be appointed to this key framework – one which reflects Arup’s longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable, and innovative infrastructure solutions across the UK’s strategic road network. We look forward to collaborating closely with National Highways and other partners."
Arup will work in a collaborative partnership with AECOM, built on the success of working together on previous frameworks in this sector.
Peter Whittlestone, SPaTS Framework Director at Arup, comments: “This collaborative initiative reflects Arup’s shared commitment to supporting National Highways’ goals for improving the UK’s regional networks. By leveraging Arup’s expertise in transportation services, we’re proud to contribute to improvements focused on enhancing safety, improving the customer experience, and driving progress toward net zero carbon and environmental sustainability.”
Nick Perrin, Head of Infrastructure, Surface Transportation, Aviation & Ports, UK & Ireland, at AECOM, adds: “This new appointment builds on our successful partnership with Arup under the previous SPaTS framework and further strengthens our longstanding relationship with National Highways. We look forward to continuing our collaborative approach, bringing the full breadth of our technical and engineering advisory expertise to deliver solutions that create positive social impact and help enhance the efficiency, safety and resilience of the Strategic Road Network.”
