Several Arup engineers have been named in the Top 50 Women in Engineering (WE50) Awards, organised annually by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES).

The awards celebrate women making a significant contribution to engineering and recognise individuals who demonstrate leadership, technical excellence and a commitment to advancing the profession.

This year's theme, Engineering Intelligence, highlights how engineers apply technical expertise, creativity and collaboration to solve complex challenges and deliver meaningful impact.

Maya Shinozaki, Leonora Lang, Selin Shefik, and Roha Javed have all been recognised in this year's Top 50.

Maya Shinozaki, Global Commercial Manager for Arup Digital Products said: “Working across different locations has shaped how I approach engineering. It has reinforced the importance of applying sound judgment and making decisions that others can trust, particularly when dealing with complex or uncertain challenges.”

Leonora Lang, Vertical Transportation (VT) Discipline Lead said: “Much of Engineering is about making complex problems work clearly in practice. Finding solutions that balance performance, safety and real-world constraints are central to what we do and is something I've focused on throughout my career.”

Selin Shefik, Engineer said: “Engineering is about responsibility and understanding the context around what you deliver. The technical side matters, but the strongest outcomes come from taking the time to really listen, engage with people and environments and make sure what you build reflects what people actually need.”

Roha Javed, Security Consultant said: “Security design is about understanding risk and creating environments that are resilient without adding unnecessary complexity. Much of my work focuses on bringing together systems, people and space to deliver solutions that are practical and reliable in real-world settings. This recognition reflects the role engineering plays in shaping safer, more adaptable infrastructure.”

The WE50 awards celebrate excellence across a broad range of engineering roles, shining a light on women who are driving innovation, supporting others and helping to shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for the industry.
