Arup has appointed John Ammentorp as its new Global Energy Leader as it pursues ambitious plans to grow its global energy business and support clients navigating the energy transition.

John joins Arup from Rambøll where he most recently served as Global Service Line Director for Industry and Infrastructure Facilities, covering energy and transport. He brings nearly 25 years of senior leadership experience in the energy sector, with deep expertise across power systems, transmission and distribution, and the commercial delivery of complex energy infrastructure. John will be based in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of Arup’s growing global energy team.

Four years ago the firm dedicated its expertise and technical knowledge to support the global energy transition. Since then, Arup’s energy business has outpaced the expanding energy market at a 16% compound annual growth rate. It is projected to be in the top five Arup business areas by turnover by 2030.

Arup now aims to double the size of its energy business again over the next four years and expand its ability to guide, plan and design solutions for a low-carbon future. Strengthening the firm's energy leadership is a critical step in that journey, positioning Arup to build on its momentum and achieve its growth targets by the end of the decade.

Throughout his career, John has led teams delivering power transmission, distribution and district energy projects across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, and spearheaded his previous firm's global energy innovation and digitalisation strategy. He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Engineering College of Copenhagen.

John Ammentorp, Arup’s new Global Energy Leader, said: “The energy transition is the defining infrastructure challenge of our generation, and it demands the kind of multidisciplinary thinking and technical excellence that Arup is known for.

“I am looking forward to working with Arup's energy teams to help clients with the design and construction of the infrastructure that will underpin a resilient, low-carbon energy system.”

Richard de Cani, Chief Officer for Global Business and Markets at Arup, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’re bringing into Arup global energy expert John Ammentorp, who will draw on his extensive experience working across the Nordics, Europe and the rest of the world to help Arup expand its energy offer to clients worldwide.”

Arup will continue to dedicate its expertise and technical knowledge to accelerating the energy transition, solving complex challenges and helping clients achieve their commercial and sustainability priorities.
