Global built environment consultancy Arup proudly sponsored this year’s Super Terminal Expo, a leading regional industry event that brought together global and regional aviation leaders and experts to explore the future of airport development.

As a trusted partner to many of the world’s leading airports, Arup’s experts led key discussions on airport planning, terminal design, decarbonisation, operations excellency and passenger experience, demonstrating the integrated expertise needed to navigate the industry’s next phase of evolution.

With more than 4,000 attendees and over 120 exhibitors, Super Terminal Expo has established itself as one of Asia’s most influential aviation events. This year’s gathering reinforced Hong Kong’s position as a leading regional transport hub and a driver of innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development across the intermodal transport ecosystem. For Arup, the event served as a powerful platform to reaffirm its commitment to shaping a more connected, sustainable, and passenger-focused aviation industry.

At the centre of Arup’s participation was a high-level roundtable titled “Constructing Tomorrow’s Terminal while Improving Today’s Experience”. Moderated by Regine Weston, Arup Fellow and internationally recognised aviation expert, the session brought together senior airport executives, operators, and planners to discuss one of the industry’s most complex challenges: how to expand and modernise terminals to accommodate future growth while ensuring operational excellence and passenger satisfaction.

Airports around the world are under increasing pressure to deliver large-scale expansion projects while maintaining seamless operations. The roundtable explored global best practices and real-world case studies, offering strategies to balance ongoing construction with an uncompromised travel experience.

Regine Weston, Arup Fellow, said: "Our discussion reaffirmed that successful terminal development goes beyond technical excellence — it’s about strategic collaboration and a shared vision for the future. By combining global expertise with local understanding, we can help airports plan and deliver projects that are affordable, efficient and sustainable, enhancing the passenger journey at every stage."

Beyond the roundtable, Arup’s leadership resonated across multiple panel discussions throughout the three-day event, showcasing the depth and breadth of our expertise, and a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to addressing aviation’s most pressing challenges.

  • Jin Fan, APAC Aviation Business Leader, inspired audiences as she spoke on empowering women in aviation, highlighting the essential role of diverse perspectives in building a more inclusive industry.
  • Jim Peacock, ANZ Aviation Business Leader, led a session on sustainable airport development, outlining the critical pathways required to achieve net-zero goal in aviation infrastructure.
  • Vincent Cheng, Arup Fellow & APAC Climate and Sustainability Services Leader, delved into the practical strategies for decarbonising airport operations, emphasising the role of smart, integrated design in reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.

Jenny Buckley, Global Aviation Leader, said: "The aviation industry today faces complex challenges, the future will be shaped by new technology, competition and rapidly changing expectations. The industry is constantly evolving and there is tremendous potential in this region. Our future success lies in combining breakthrough technologies with a people-centric mindset, balancing operational excellence with scalable growth, and ensuring that every advancement ultimately translates into a seamless and improved passenger experience."

Jin Fan, APAC Aviation Leader, said: "Across the Asia-Pacific region, airports are undertaking ambitious expansion and improvement programmes. While each faces distinct challenges, the shared objective is clear, to build capacity, maintain operational continuity, and elevate the passenger experience. The APAC aviation market is undergoing a transformative shift, and we are ready to bring together Arup’s global expertise and deep local knowledge to help clients deliver solutions that are both practical and visionary."
