Arup’s sustainable landscape design for Qianwan Park has garnered three prestigious awards: a Merit Award in HKIUD GBA Urban Design Awards 2024, a Gold Award at MUSE Design Awards, the Winner in Landscape Architecture at Built Design Awards.
Located in west Shekou Peninsula in Shenzhen, Qianwan Park spans 31.6 hectares, connecting Qianhai Bay to the west and the Dananshan mountains to the southeast, embodying a harmonious blend of urban life and natural beauty.
Leveraging Arup’s multidisciplinary expertise, the design blends Lingnan traditions into modern sustainable design. Qianwan Park establishes a highly efficient carbon sink, actively contributing to carbon mitigation. With Arup’s Total Carbon App, the team developed a clear roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, with annual plant sequestration projected to reach 900 tCO2e.
The project features a 3km riverfront with diverse elements and two landscape footbridges that enhance connectivity. With 71% green coverage, the park offers facilities for reactional, art, culture, education and dining. Its nature-based, species-focused approach aims to safeguard biodiversity and enhance ecological value. The project also got a Shortlist at World Landscape Architecture Awards 2025 and Asian Design Awards 2024.
