Arup is proud to announce it has become the delivery partner for the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) programme in Türkiye, working on five key city-shaping projects across Türkiye under the Global Future Cities Prosperity Fund Programme.

Over the next two years, Arup will deliver these five vital projects spread across three major Turkish cities: Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa. Through targeted interventions focused on transport as well as urban planning and resilience, the Global Future Cities Prosperity Fund supports the sustainable development of safer, more resilient urban environments that can create more inclusive economic growth, reduce poverty and gender inequality; while increasing mobility.

After successfully completing the inception phase, launched in September 2019, Arup has now commenced  the implementation phase of the programme. Based in Istanbul, Arup’s Cem Budak is working closely with the FCO and all the relevant local government and authorities, working as the Programme Director for all the five initiatives.

We are proud to be leading this city-shaping programme with the UK’s FCO, with five targeted initiatives designed to transform these major cities in Türkiye. We are working together to embed inclusivity at the heart of the design and planning of these city interventions: the programme’s ambition is to create safer and more resilient urban environments that offer a more inclusive, sustainable approach to economic growth. ” Cem Budak Cem Budak Arup Midlands Leader

In Bursa, Arup will work with the city’s Metropolitan municipality to create a Smart City Transformation Framework, supported by technical consultants EY. Designed to create an improved urban governance for mobility, this programme will focus on expanding accessible infrastructure and services to create a more efficient transport network, resulting in faster, more comfortable public transport experience for all.
