Despite the turbulence caused by the global pandemic, the firm has delivered a solid performance across all regions this year. Revenue grew by 6% to £1.8 billion for the period of April 2019 to March 2020. Operating profit, before member-profit sharing, was 8%.

The pandemic has amplified many of the challenges facing the world, in particular climate change, resource depletion and rapid urbanisation. In the last year Arup has responded to these issues by applying its expertise in radical new ways, using data, technology and modelling to help clients and society adapt and thrive.

Working on 17,000 projects in 146 countries, the greatest impact Arup can have is through its work with clients and partners. This year Arup launched a global plan to encourage all members of the firm to deliver sustainable outcomes in everything they do – a significant step in embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the organisation. The firm has also committed to achieving net zero emissions across its entire operations by 2030.
