Arup has helped Spanish real estate group Gmp secure a WELL Health-Safety Rating for a portfolio of 15 office buildings, as landlords and tenants continue to look for ways to prepare a safe return to work in a post-COVID world.

Our sustainability team provided advisory services to help property owner Gmp secure the new rating for the different buildings, representing a total of 237.637 sqm, in a two- months record time.

The pandemic has highlighted the critical need for safety protocols in indoor and enclosed environments, where people spend approximately 90% of their time.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is a subset of WELL Building Standard™ features adapted for facility operations and management. The rating, informed by the COVID-19 pandemic, considers more than 20 features including Cleaning and Sanitization Procedures, Air and Water Quality Management, Emergency Preparedness Programs and Stakeholder Engagement and Communication.

Designed to empower owners and operators across large and small businesses, the rating helps certify operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans for both new and existing facilities.

Projects that are officially designated as WELL Health-Safety Rated projects will need to demonstrate their continued achievement of WELL requirements annually.
