SEAONC honoured Arup with the Award of Excellence for our structural engineering work on the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

On 3 May, the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California named the recently completed, base-isolated Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center as the winner of the Award of Excellence in the New Construction category.

Many of our project collaborators joined us for the award presentation including our client, the San Francisco Department of Public Works; the project architect, Fong & Chan Architects; the contractor, Webcor Builders; and the steel fabricator, Herrick. Lukki Lam, the project engineer, accepted the award on behalf of the team.

Project Director Eric Ko also gave an acceptance speech, thanking the team for their perseverance and collaborative efforts over the past nine years to deliver what San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee called, “San Francisco’s values at its best…a world-class, seismically safe, technologically advanced, and sustainably built hospital for all San Franciscans.”

The hospital is due to open to patients on 21 May. In addition to structural engineering, Arup provided sustainability and lighting consulting for the hospital.
