Houston

Houston is a modern, diverse city with broad-based industries, an advanced technical workforce, and a vibrant culture. Arup has been active in the Texas market since the late 1980s, providing professional engineering services on a wide variety of projects in the energy, transportation, and property sectors. To continue our contributions and widen our influence across the built environment in Texas, Arup’s Houston office was established in the early 2000s.

The Houston energy team has an ever-growing range of energy-related projects and services, including project management, due diligence, consultancy, and engineering design. Our energy specialists provide strategies for energy efficiency, resource management, renewable power generation, and challenging offshore wind environments.

Arup’s transportation and infrastructure teams in Houston have delivered railway engineering services for a variety of rail technologies, including bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail, metro, heavy haul freight, and high speed rail. Our team has completed a number of projects for Houston METRO, and we served as the Owner’s Engineer for Texas Central High Speed Train. We also supported the development of Uptown Houston’s BRT as part of the Post Oak Boulevard Redevelopment. Additionally, our team is contributing to significant infrastructure projects throughout Texas such as the Harbor Bridge Replacement Project in Corpus Christi, as well as aviation projects including Mickey Leland International Terminal at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

Our buildings team has a long history of projects in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, including arts and culture projects such as the longstanding Menil Collection Main Building in Houston, the Ellsworth Kelly Art Repository and the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, the Wortham Theater Renovation, and the Alamo Museum expansion in San Antonio. In the healthcare sector, Arup has contributed to the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center McNair Campus. Most recently, Arup is providing structural engineering for the Houston Endowment Headquarters, one of the first hybrid steel mass timber structures in Texas and the Houston office’s first ground-up construction project.
