The Industrial Resolution: New thinking on closed loop product design and manufacturing

The Industrial Resolution

The Industrial Resolution is the result of our research into closed loop design, manufacturing and re-use in the field of products, buildings, technology, furniture, vehicles and packaging.

Thoughts drawn from historic and contemporary case studies provide insight, demonstrating how physical products can be refined to reduce the impact they have on our planet.

The foreword is written by one of the most successful pioneers of user centred product design Sir Kenneth Grange, with thought content provided by Stephen Philips, leader of Arup’s Product Design team. Engineer Carolina Bartram describes the challenges with making buildings truly circular and the design approach required for The Circular Building, constructed using recycled materials that could be reused at end of life. Josh Treuhaft provides a snapshot of upcycling initiatives taking place in New York and metallurgist Neil Perry talks about the value and process behind recycling metals for vehicles.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Vitra Design Museum and a plethora of other organisations and people have contributed to this thought provoking publication. For further information, please contact Stephen Philips.
