Façades design for Ikea’s expansion project in Spain

The Ikea centers in Valladolid and Sabadell are part of Ikea’s expansion project in Spain. For these two new Ikea centers, the Swedish multinational furniture and household company has contracted Arup’s façades design services.

Ikea in Valladolid

The recently Ikea´s store opened in Valladolid is the first Spanish store built in a larger commercial space in Valladolid, with one of its façades opening onto an inner courtyard in the style of a large Mall. For the design of this façade, Arup took into account maximum transparency, using laminated glass pillars that support the front of the 40m by 11m shop window which separates the store from the adjoining food court area. Thanks to this design, the inside of the shop window can be appreciated without visual interference of metallic elements.
