Just Energy, South Africa

Project development methodology and pre-feasibility studies.

Just Energy is a South African not-for-profit renewable energy developer, working with local communities to create businesses associated with clean, green energy.

Arup was commissioned to review the Just Energy business case and financial model, providing input and recommendations on financial assumptions and proposed organisation structure.

Wind energy pilot projects

Just Energy have seed funding and donor support towards start-up costs for wind energy pilots. A favourable policy environment, high demand for electricity and financial incentives for wind energy have led to opportunities for investment in this form of renewable energy.

Arup developed a methodology to provide a detailed road map to take projects from site identification to the wind energy facility development stage. The firm has since undertaken a series of pre-feasibility studies and technical and layout designs for one of the proposed schemes.

Project management

A project manager from Arup was tasked to manage the planning and environmental phase for four proposed wind energy sites. This included detailed project planning and management of Environmental Impact Assessments and land-use rezoning.
