Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Shenzhen

Landmark building designed to achieve the highest green building standards

This landmark building is located in Shenzhen’s new Financial District, adjacent to the administrative and cultural centre of the city. It is designed to be one of the first buildings to achieve the highest local green building standards.

With a total floor area of 175,000m², the 245m-tall, 51-storey building houses the Shenzhen Stock Exchange offices, a trading floor, registration and clearing house, the Securities Information Company and ancillary services.

Project Summary

245m tall building forming the new landmark in Shenzhen

40% reduction in water consumption than required by the design codes

20% less energy comsumption than required by the design codes

Floating platform

The building features a floating base edged up the tower to become a three-storey-high platform supporting the main elements of the Stock Exchange. The space between the raised platform and the ground is used as a covered urban plaza, large enough to accommodate public gatherings and performances. Financial information streams down digital banners hanging from the elevated podium.

The platform is supported by a network of transfer trusses, designed to withstand gravity loads and typhoon and earthquake forces. This innovative structural design has met stringent seismic requirements.

Integrated sustainability design

The project was be one of the first few buildings that achieved the highest three star green building label in China. It targets a very high level of resource efficiency, saving 40% more water and 20% more energy than required by the design codes.

State-of-the-art simulation tools have been applied to assessing the natural ventilation, daylight, energy performance and microclimate, including the computational fluid dynamics, radiance and diffractive optical element modelling technologies.

Setting a standard for environmentally sustainable development in China

The sustainability design approach adopted throughout the design process has balanced economic, social and environmental considerations. Green building design is still a new concept in China. This project will set a standard for environmentally sustainable construction in China and encourage the adoption of sustainable design and development practices in the country.
