The clients wish was to create an office space within a former grain silo. The challenge was to retain the original building qualities and architecture while catering to its new functions. The conversion of the silos asked for solutions in terms of room acoustics and lighting design (daylight and electric light).
The silos are dark, highly reverberant spaces, while office environments are well-controlled and comfortable working areas conducive to team work and employee interaction, productivity and wellbeing.
We evaluated different integrated design strategies for controlling space reverberance and noise build-up, as well as optimisation of a daylight performance. As for the electric lighting we integrated standard products into acoustic materials to produce visually pleasing, efficient and low-cost lighting solutions.
