Ensuring building envelopes are accessible, maintainable and future-focused.

Contemporary buildings present many operational challenges, not least access and maintenance. Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) and facade access is a specialist service from Arup, optimising access systems to unique facades.

Too often in the past, facade access has considered only at the final stage of a project. This typically results in restricted possibilities for an optimised facade access system and an increase in cost to the client, thus engaging early in the design process will be highly beneficial. Arup’s team are commissioned right at the start, ensuring ongoing maintenance is considered at the earliest stages, and seamlessly incorporated into the design.

The right mix

We work with all the major contractors in the market, and use only the best access systems - including building maintenance units, abseiling systems, cherry pickers, temporary and permanent access systems. Our advice is always unbiased, and we are independent of any one manufacturer.

Every kind of building

Our portfolio of projects ranges from bridges, airports, stadiums, traditional and industrial structures to residential and commercial high-rise buildings. We specialise in complex buildings up to mega tall towers, as well as being involved in innovative new design features such as maintenance of green walls. This diversity of experience gives us the confidence to explore unique, project-specific design solutions while ensuring success with proven systems.

Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 3

Taoyuan International is the largest airport in Taiwan and the eleventh busiest in the world. Terminal 3 is one of the airport’s major expansion projects in response to the rapid growth in passenger volume and economic activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Arup together with the architects will provide a fully coordinated design package including BIM 300.

Goldin Finance 117

The proposed super high-rise tower will become the centre piece of a newly developed Central Business District south of Tianjin upon completion in 2020.

Arup is providing the engineering design of the tower, working closely with the architects and facade engineers to fit the building maintenance units within this mega building.
