Proactive human intervention through nature-based solutions is critical to how we will address the climate crisis, in terms of both climate change adaptation and mitigation.

With a spotlight on Arup’s approach, this publication explores how nature-based solutions (NbS), supported by advanced digital tools, data and AI, are being integrated into engineering practices to help address climate resilience, biodiversity and sustainable urban development.

In collaboration with New Civil Engineer (NCE) and its ‘Examines’ series, we deep dive into the emergence of digital tools and how they are being used to enable the capture and analysis of data at an unprecedented scale to support NbS.

Covering catalysts to action such as legislation and the use of AI and machine learning to support better design. We also consider the integration of digital technologies and the importance of data. Ultimately, we ask: how can we facilitate the delivery of nature-based solutions at scale?
