In 2019, as many local governments in the UK declared a climate and ecological emergency, we published guidance to support them in the development of a Climate Action Plan: You’ve declared a climate emergency…what next? Since then, we have worked with many clients to prepare robust evidence bases and interpret these to be able to outline meaningful targets and actions for emissions reductions and climate resilience.
Great progress continues to be made across the UK government sector, but the transition into implementation still meets with many challenges – from limitations of local powers to financial constraints and gaps in skills and knowledge, among others.
Here we present follow-up guidance highlighting seven focus areas to move plans into implementation.
