Arup’s energy advisory team has supported China Three Gorges Europe (CTGE) with the acquisition of a portfolio of 13 photovoltaic plants from Spanish renewable energy developer X-Elio, the largest photovoltaic portfolio sale in Spain so far this year.

Located across the country - Castilla y León, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Andalucía and Murcia – the photovoltaic facilities have a combined capacity of 572MW.

Europe’s solar energy market has seen significant production growth in recent years, as large projects come online. The acquisition is a landmark entry deal into Spain’s photovoltaic market for state-owned Chinese utility CTGE, one of the largest renewable energy developers and operators in the world.

Arup’s renewable energy specialists have carried out the technical due diligence for the portfolio purchase, providing insight into the design, location, equipment selection and production and lifetime forecasts for all the sites, developed between 2019 and 2020.
