Arup has joined forces with government arts agency Create NSW to launch an incubator program offering four NSW-based musicians and sound artists access to SoundLab, a high-end acoustics lab located in Arup’s Sydney office.

Arup’s Arts and Culture Regional Business Leader Chris Mercer said they were thrilled to partner with the NSW Government again on the residency and work with the talented artists and musicians.

“As a long-term partner to the arts community, we are delighted to be able to help nurture artistic talent through this creative partnership with the NSW Government,” Mr. Mercer said.

This residency embodies Arup and our support for artists and a sustainable and resilient arts and culture sector. We believe in the sector’s transformative force to connect us to ourselves, each other, our communities and our planet. ” Chris Mercer Chris Mercer Former Associate | Arts and Culture – Australasia Leader

Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said “After a successful pilot program in 2021, the NSW Government is pleased to partner with design and engineering firm Arup to once again offer the SoundLab Residency program. This is a truly exciting opportunity to experiment, design and create in the high-end SoundLab facility and I encourage NSW musicians and sound artists to apply.”

The successful artists will receive $3,750 in funding support from Create NSW. Arup’s major in-kind contribution for the use of the SoundLab for four weeks equates to approximately $7,000 per week for musicians and sound artists.

Through the residency, artists will be encouraged to network with the Arup team, exposing them to potential opportunities for collaboration on future projects.

Expressions of interest for the residency program are now open and close Monday 25 July 2022. For more information including details on how to apply, visit Create NSW SoundLab Residency Program.

We launched the inaugural Create NSW SoundLab Residency Program last year and welcomed five recipients to experiment and learn more about sound in our Sydney high-end acoustics lab.
