Arup has been appointed by Commonwealth LNG to provide specialist engineering services for the development of industry first LNG modular storage tanks.
Commonwealth LNG plans to construct and operate its proposed natural gas liquefaction and export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, with first export of liquified natural gas commencing in 2024. The facility has a total liquefaction capacity of 8.4 million tonnes per year and a total LNG storage volume of 240,000m3.
The innovative design of the modular tank – an original concept by Arup - allows the tank to be constructed offsite at a dedicated fabrication yard in parallel with foundation construction onsite. This approach significantly reduces onsite labour and shortens completion time by up to one year. These benefits result in capital cost savings and overall project risk reduction.
