Arup Group Chairman, Alan Belfield, joined a number of senior UK business leaders in a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he launched the Government’s new green agenda.

The Prime Minister shared his ‘Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution’ in a roundtable with many of the industry figures who will help ultimately drive the UK’s transformation.

Johnson discussed a number of key measures with the group, which featured new investments and ambitious targets for 40GW of offshore wind by 2030; 5GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030; a green light for the next generation of small and advanced nuclear reactors; and a renewed push on electric vehicles (EVs).

It is heartening to see the Government put such a strong focus on building a greener future for the UK. Arup is already actively supporting partners and developers in each of these areas, but we will move forward faster if the political will and policy frameworks are there to support us. ”

The plan is designed to mobilise £12 billion of government investment in a bid to create and support up to 250,000 highly-skilled green jobs, and leverage over three times as much private sector investment by 2030.
