Arup Group board welcomes new members, with Dervilla Mitchell CBE becoming Joint Deputy Chair

Dervilla Mitchell has been appointed Joint Deputy Chair, as the Group Board welcomes new members Eva Hinkers and Andy Howard.

The appointments effective from 1st of April, will bring a broader range of skills to the board and strengthen its focus on delivering sustainable solutions for the built environment. Jerome Frost OBE is stepping into the role as Chair of Arup’s UK, Middle East, India and Africa region.

The ability of our industry to solve complex problems has been enhanced by the availability of data and the use of advanced digital technology. There is now an urgency to apply our skills to tackle major challenges facing the world including resource depletion, rapid urbanisation and climate change and to deliver resilient human centric solutions. Dervilla who has been a member of the Group Board since 2014 joins Tristram Carfare as Joint Deputy Chair. Dervilla is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most celebrated female engineers. Her honorary CBE was awarded for delivering technically challenging major projects, most notably Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5, the largest construction project in Europe at the time, the Athletes Village in Stratford London, Dublin airport’s Terminal 2 and the Midfield terminal in Abu Dhabi.

Eva Hinkers, named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Engineering by the Financial Times, is the current Chair of the Europe Region. Eva leads Arup’s relationship with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to accelerate the application of Circular Economy principles in the built environment.

Andy Howard has been the Americas region leader since 2016, one of Arup’s fastest growing regions. Prior to moving to the US Andy spent over a decade in Africa, leading buildings and industrial projects. Peter Chamley is stepping down from the board and as Chair of Australasia.
