Arup has carried out the consultancy and coordination of two leading sustainability seals for Madrid Nuevo Norte urban regeneration project, the first development to obtain both certificates in Europe.
Arup has worked with developer Distrito Castellana Norte to secure a Gold LEED for Communities Plan and Design pre-certification, as well as a provisional BREEAM ES Urbanismo 2020 certificate.
Driven by sustainability, Madrid Nuevo Norte is the largest mixed-use urban regeneration intervention in Europe. The two leading sustainability seals are proof of this inherent commitment to people, community, integration, and resilience.
Covering a total area of 230 hectares, this ambitious project seeks to bring to life a disused space formed by the track bundle leading to Chamartín station, regenerating the neighbourhood as a thriving residential and business area backed by an integrated public transport hub.
Directed by DCN, a team of sustainability consultants from Arup has led the process for the LEED for Cities Gold pre-certification, the second highest of the four levels awarded, as well as the provisional BREEAM ES Urbanism 2020 certificate.
