High Speed 1 (HS1) won three awards at the 2008 Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards held at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London on 6 February 2009. Arup was jointly credited for each award.

The awards reflect the successful collaboration of the HS1 team – the client Union Railways (North) Limited, designer and project managing team Rail Link Engineering, (made up of staff from Arup, Bechtel, Halcrow and Systra), and the local planning authorities and environmental / heritage consultants.
Arup played a leading role in the delivery of the archaeological and heritage successes and delivery of the planning and stakeholder consultation process via the Planning Forum. This encompassed Arup led areas of planning and consents, environment, heritage, ecology, noise and vibration and landscape architecture, and structural and civil engineering.
