Alistair Sargeant and Fu Chuanming from our Singapore office have been recognised with the Association for Consulting Engineers (ACES) Young Consulting Engineer Award 2021. They have emerged winners in the Civil and Structural Engineer and Mechanical Engineer categories respectively.

Our engineers were holistically assessed on their leadership and communication skills, positive and notable social impact and contributions, technical competence, and showcasing creative and innovative solutions.

We are very proud of what our young engineers have achieved. With their passion and technical competence, they will be instrumental in helping Arup push the boundaries of digital and creative design in their respective fields. ”

While starting out as a graduate engineer with Arup in the UK, Alistair has since had the opportunity to work in numerous cities including London, Boston, Hong Kong and now Singapore. An Associate and structural engineer, his varied career has exposed him to internationally renowned projects including the London Aquatics Centre, Sagrada Familia, Marina Bay Sands and Mass Rapid Transit system projects in Singapore. Alistair is a strong advocate of digital engineering and is actively spearheading initiatives in the Singapore office. This includes upskilling programmes and initiatives that explore the use of automation in enhancing productivity.

I am very happy to receive this award and thankful to Arup for the opportunity to work on world-class projects and to my colleagues who have been so supportive. I’m looking forward to working with ACES and the wider community to help steer initiatives to elevate the design and engineering practice in Singapore. ”

I am grateful to be recognised by ACES for positive contributions to Singapore’s engineering community. This journey is not a ‘one-man show’ and I appreciate my seniors and counterparts who have helped me along the way. I hope to continue making an impact – particularly in enhancing productivity through digital and automation in mechanical and electrical design. ”
