Arup’s new Melbourne and Sydney ‘homes’ – in Australia’s latest A-Grade CBD commercial buildings – exemplify a people-first approach to innovative workplaces.

Located in One Melbourne Quarter and Barrack Place Sydney, they are the result of detailed planning by designers HASSELL working with Arup. Both buildings were officially opened on 11 October 2018.

We have optimised the total design to create places where we can do great work together, and welcome our clients and collaborators to work alongside us. The offices directly reflect our values as well as our current and future working needs.

In every sense, they embody and reflect Arup’s emphasis on quality, sustainability, versatility, collaboration and creativity. Collaboration is key to our philosophy and as such our workplaces are open and connected. ”

The offices have experimental places such as sound and light labs, as well as a variety of spaces which can be adapted to the task at hand, from design thinking and exploration workshops to virtual reality experimental labs.

Arup has been agile working for many years and has optimised both workplaces based on these experiences.  However, there are also dedicated quiet places for research, focus and reflection.

Both buildings are 6 Star Green Star rated, use 100% renewable power and are targeting high star NABERS ratings for energy and water.
Arup also provided all engineering services for Lendlease’s One Melbourne Quarter and Investa’s Barrack Place.

The buildings presented different challenges and opportunities. One Melbourne Quarter is part of a new city precinct with its own Sky Park extending over a busy arterial road while Barrack Place is in a warehouse heritage district in the heart of the Sydney CBD.

These have been unique and exciting opportunities – we are extremely proud to have delivered exemplar buildings which house such market-leading workplaces. ”
