One of the world’s largest single-terminal airport, Beijing Daxing International Airport opens today, embarking on a whole new journey to the world.
Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, ADP Ingénierie and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (BIAD), the phoenix-shaped airport has a total GFA of 700,000m² and can accommodate a maximum capacity of 100 million passengers per year. It will relieve existing pressure on the Beijing Capital International Airport.
Representing an important icon in Beijing, the airport is a super transportation hub for the Chinese capital – with three underground railway stations beneath the terminal building in a total area of 200,000m² for five railway lines, set to allow easy transfer for passengers to various means of transportation.
Working closely with BIAD, we have delivered a number of innovative solutions through our services in fire engineering, structural peer review, passenger simulation and logistics simulation for this ground-breaking project, resulting in significant material and cost savings, and carbon emission reduction, and enabling a shorter transit distance to increase the passenger comfortability.
