Arup’s pioneering digital innovation Neuron: AI smart building platform has been named Digital Innovation of the Year and Buildings Technology Innovation of the Year at The Energy Awards 2021.

Developed by Arup engineers to enable smart building operation, Neuron is an app that translates building data into smarter insights for better decisions. It integrates 5G and the Internet of Things to gather real-time ‘sense data’ from equipment and systems, and uses Building Information Modelling (BIM) to display these complex data sets through a cloud-based, centralised management console. Neuron’s ‘brain’ uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse, optimise and automate operations to help improve energy efficiency.

We’re truly excited to have achieved these additional accolades for Neuron, a wonderful recognition from the energy industry of our effort in realising our vision of data-driven building operation. Neuron shows the benefits of the digital twin approach in generating tangible insights that inform the way a new generation of smart buildings and infrastructure are designed, constructed, managed and maintained. We’re keen to further develop the tool to help decarbonise the built environment. ” Mark Chen© Arup Mark Chen Associate
