Arup is proud to be recognized by Fast Company in their third annual Best Workplaces for Innovators list, which honors businesses and organizations that demonstrate a deep commitment to encouraging innovation at all levels. Arup was ranked 18th for its investment in innovation, culture, and people.

The 2021 Best Workplaces for Innovators list ranks 100 winners from a variety of industries. Fast Company editors scored nearly 1,500 applications, and a panel of eight judges reviewed and endorsed the top 100 companies.

“These leaders and teams created cultures of innovation and sustained them, even as remote work extended into 2021,” says Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “This newest list of the Best Workplaces for Innovators honors those organizations that found ways to collaborate and invent despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, ensuring employees were at the forefront.”

Arup’s investment in innovation and people catalyzes transformative impact in the built environment and enables the firm to further its goal of shaping a more sustainable world. Arup has continuously pushed the envelope on innovation, most recently enhancing its in-house pedestrian and crowd simulation platform MassMotion to guide clients on physical distancing policies based on real-world data. The firm also supported the incubation of Acorn, a first-of-its-kind technology solution for the transportation industry to achieve higher operational efficiency, reduced travel time, and increased safety. Acorn has since been spun out as an independent startup.

In addition, Arup Fellow Raj Patel was recognized by Fast Company as an Innovative Leader of the Year. This new category for 2021 celebrates exceptional individuals who have championed innovation in the workplace.
