Four Arup engineers have been named in the prestigious Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards in celebration of International Women in Engineering Day. The winners are all current or former apprentices; a much-needed celebration given women make up around 12% of engineers in the UK but just over 7% of engineering apprentices.

The award winners, considered to be amongst the UK’s most influential female engineers, work across areas including digital design, BIM modelling, building services, structural engineering and transport.

Arup honourees have been named as:

  • Daniela Zanni – Structural Technician Apprentice, Manchester office

  • Sarah Mulvanny – BIM Technician, Manchester office

  • Lauren McNaughton – Apprentice Building Services Engineer, Edinburgh office

  • Tammy Whelan – Assistant Technician, Belfast office

Another three Arup engineers were also highly commended:

  • Tialer Johnson – Assistant Technician, London office

  • Emily Marsden – Structural Engineering Apprentice, Leeds office

  • Shannon Martin – Assistant Technician, Bristol office

The Top 50 Women in Engineering is produced annually by the Women’s Engineering Society, this year in collaboration with The Guardian.
