Four Arup projects have been recognised with awards from prominent engineering bodies, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) and the Republic of Ireland Regional Hub of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), in its inaugural year.
The ACEI Awards celebrate consulting engineering, highlighting recent creative and innovative designs across the country. Three projects received ACEI Engineering Excellence Awards in 2023 – Bolands Quay in the Structural – Large category, Dublin Airport North Runway in the Civil – Large category and Digital Manufacturing Ireland in the Project Management category.
Bolands Quay
Bolands Quay is a mixed-use redevelopment project in Dublin city, which involved restoring and transforming 19th century assets alongside the design of three new landmark tapered towers.
Working closely with project partners, the Arup team sought to achieve a best-in-class design , providing key advice on which older structures could be retained and which could not. Ambitious carbon measures were incorporated, with the development targeting a LEED Gold standard. The project was also shortlisted in the MEP – Large category.

Dublin Airport North Runway
Dublin Airport’s North Runway is a critical piece of national infrastructure. The international project team, including Arup, SENER and a Construction Joint Venture of FCC Construcción and Roadbridge, brought together their expertise from Ireland, the UK, Spain and other projects globally.
Sustainable design and construction were at the core of this project, including maximising material re-use in line with circular economy principles, resulting in a resilient asset that supports daa’s future plans and ambitions for aviation in Ireland.

Digital Manufacturing Ireland
Digital Manufacturing Ireland is an industry-led national centre in County Limerick, southwest of Ireland, that enables Irish-based manufacturers to access, adopt and accelerate new digital technologies which solve real world challenges and drive future competitiveness.
Working closely with IDA Ireland and our project partners, Arup’s project management, procurement and contract administration specialists ensured an efficient process from design to fitout and handover, accelerating operations.

2023 was also the inaugural year of the Republic of Ireland Regional Hub’s IStructE Structural Awards which celebrate outstanding structural engineering.
The recently opened Diageo Keg Plant at St. James’s Gate in Dublin city was presented with the Structural Award in the Small Project category. One of Ireland's largest breweries, the plant is set to become the largest stout kegging facility in the world.
