In response to client demand Arup is increasing its commercial advisory capabilities and has appointed senior infrastructure transaction adviser, Jeff Rathgeber.

Jeff will lead the Regional Transaction Services team, leveraging his extensive experience in large infrastructure acquisitions and divestments in Canada, the UK, UAE, Southeast Asia and Australia.

He will be working closely with Gaurav Ahuja, who heads up Arup’s Finance & Economics team in the Asia Pacific.

With cheap and available liquidity spurring merger and acquisition activity, we’re looking forward to further growing the team around Jeff, who brings significant transactions experience and an ability to view deals through an investor’s lens. ” Gaurav Ahuja Gaurav Ahuja Finance and Economics Leader, Asia Pacific

In previous roles, Jeff has provided due diligence and asset management advice, and technical input to valuations on assets worth more than $50 billion. These have been across a range of asset classes including ports, airports, road, rail and energy.

“This is a time of opportunity for APAC assets. They are world class – stadia, ports, telco towers, transport and energy, with ongoing interest in renewables and now hydrogen in particular,” Jeff said.

Locally, the market is dynamic, with international investors interested in different operating models as well as the physical infrastructure. They are looking for technical advice and reassurance that comes from the experience and insights of global consultants like Arup. ” Jeff Rathgeber Jeff Rathgeber Transaction Services Leader, Asia Pacific

“The transaction market’s needs align very well with Arup’s skill sets and ability to work alongside financial due diligence and legal teams: we can advise on asset condition, capital and operating requirements, compliance, capex assessments and can articulate risk and any future opportunities,” he said.

Arup has established a strong global track record of transaction advisory services: in the energy sector we have recently provided technical and commercial due diligence services on six multi-gigawatt renewable energy portfolio transactions.

In Australia, Arup acted as technical adviser to fund manager First Sentier Investors on its successful acquisition of John Laing’s stake in a portfolio of six Australian wind farms.

The $285m transaction, covering a total installed capacity of more than 500MW, was one of the largest operational Australian renewable energy portfolios ever brought to market.
