Design and Construction of La Mesa Water Treatment Plant 1 (LMTP1) in the Philippines has won ‘Project of the Year’ at 2022 FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) Contract Users’ Awards.

The annual awards recognise excellence in the use of FIDIC contract forms for project delivery and showcase examples of good practice through collaboration from across the world. This year’s winners were announced at a high-profile awards ceremony in London on 29 November.

This was a very successful project which used the FIDIC Yellow Book contract. Claims and variations were finalised in a timely fashion, even during the challenging period of the pandemic, and there were strong sustainability measures, including solar panels to generate renewable energy. ” Judging panel

Supplying Metro Manila with 1,500 million litres of water a day, LMTP1 is the largest water treatment plant in the Philippines. Working with operator Maynilad Water Services, Arup provided consultancy services for water engineering feasibility, procurement and construction management, ensuring quality design and delivery of the retrofitted upgrades.

With our upgrades to the plant's treatment process and the inclusion of renewable energy generation, the project has significantly increased the resilience of Metro Manila’s water supply – directly benefitting over three million people.

As a long-term partner with Maynilad, Arup has continuously driven a better way to deliver projects – from local contracts to a merged local-FIDIC document and then the full Yellow Book application on the La Mesa project – helping the water and wastewater services provider standardise and improve ways of working.

We are delighted to receive this award, which demonstrates our partnership approach and commitment to delivering better outcomes by using global best practice to ensure practical and safe implementation across programmes of projects. ” Adrian Marsden Adrian Marsden Associate Director and Southeast Asia Water Lead
