Arup’s Zak Kostura and Tabitha Tavolaro, based in our New York office, and Joseph Collins, from our Oakland office, were recognised as exceptional professionals 40 years old or younger who are experts in their field.

The Rising Stars in Structural Engineering programme features engineers working in the US who demonstrate exceptional technical capability, leadership ability, effective teaching or research, and public service benefiting the structural engineering profession, their employers, project owners, and society.

Zak is an Associate in Arup’s New York office with over 14 years of experience, particularly in high-performance structures. An integral part of the structural engineering team, he brings his enthusiasm for engineering to his work, which has afforded him opportunities to grow and explore as a designer and leader. His expertise encompasses a wide variety of projects from large infrastructure projects to geometrically complex buildings and aviation projects.

Tabitha is a Principal with more than 17 years of experience working in various roles, from design engineer to project director, across a number of public and private sectors. She is an expert structural engineer, mentor, and project leader, particularly through her involvement with new and legacy cultural and academic institutions, high-rise buildings in uniquely seismic areas, and large-scale, mega aviation projects.

Joseph is an Associate Principal and the building practice leader in Arup’s Oakland office, specialising in seismic engineering, long-span steel structures, and projects overseas. In Oakland, his focus is on total building design – the delivery of comprehensive complex designs with seamless integration of all disciplines. Joseph is always looking to learn, empower his teammates, and improve the engineering and building industry through innovation and workflow optimisation.
