Arup is the lead partner for the Road User Charging (RUC) Conference again this year, taking place in Brussels, Belgium on 7 and 8 March 2018.

The conference provides an opportunity for leading practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest insights, review case studies, and debate current trends and future challenges that affect senior decision makers who have responsibility for intelligent transportation systems and road pricing.

Getting international perspectives on RUC is vital in order to understand the future of intelligent transportation systems. Padraig Kenny, Associate Director and Arup Road Pricing Leader, will deliver a presentation on maximising the value of a tolling operation through full life cycle management. He will be discussing ways to maximise collections and customer satisfaction, whilst minimising costs and managing risk. Padraig will talk attendees through the important points to consider during each stage of the tolling life cycle.

Dr. John McCarthy, Associate Director and Leader of Intelligent Mobility for Arup in Ireland, will deliver a presentation entitled 'Transport is dead – long live mobility'. He will speak about the importance of adopting a systems approach to road usage. John will propose a number of actions needed to prepare for autonomous, connected, electric and shared vehicles, provoking attendees to consider the next steps required.

We live in a digital world where information is available at the touch of a button. We must reimagine our approach to transport in this context and create a seamless customer experience. Working to bring all the pieces of the transportation puzzle together is a key first step. This must be approached not just from a technology perspective but from a policy and customer one also. ” Dr John McCarthy Dr John McCarthy Associate Director
